THINGS TO DO

We know you are coming to Wilmington to participate in the race but while you are here, you may find free time to do some other things around town. There is much to do and see in the beautiful Brandywine Valley, so we hope you can spend several days in Wilmington, Delaware with us.  The restaurant scene in Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley has garnered national accolades, and rightfully so.  Our attractions are conveniently close to everything — but with a pace, a history and a beauty all its own. Whatever your plans are — and what level of excitement you’re looking for — Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley is an amazing place to go.


DRIVING TO THE RACE

The event is in Wilmington, Del. at the heart of the I-95 corridor.  It is easy to get to via car from most east coast locations.  The race start/finish is midway between New York City & Washington, DC – 100 miles each direction and only 35 minutes from Center City Philadelphia and 60 minutes from Downtown Baltimore.


RAIL & AIR TRAVEL INFORMATION

Wilmington, Delaware is located midway between New York City & Washington, DC – 100 miles each direction and only 35 minutes from Center City Philadelphia and 60 minutes from Downtown Baltimore.

Rail access:

All north/south Amtrak trains stop at Wilmington Station, more than 55 trains a day.
SEPTA commuter trains stop on their trips from Philadelphia, PA to Newark, DE.

Air access:

Philadelphia International Airport (30 minutes by car)
New Castle County Airport (10 minutes by car)


RACE DAY PARKING PLAN

CAUTION: S. Market Street at MLK Blvd. and Rosa Parks Drive WILL BE CLOSED ON RACE SUNDAY!

Please arrive early and give yourself adequate time to park, check your gear and get to the starting line. The race starts WILL NOT be delayed.  There is NO parking in Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park lots on race weekend.  These lots are used for race logistics and are closed to public parking on both Saturday and Sunday.

There is plenty of parking within walking distance of the race START.  Paid and free options are listed below .

We have secured the following parking lots for parking on Sunday. Runners will pay a discounted rate of $5.00 for all day parking in the lots listed below by presenting your race bib at the point of exit. Runners who fail to show their bib may be subject to the full parking fee.

  • Amtrak Parking Garage – Enter on French St. Garage is located between Rosa Parks Drive and Front St
  • Train Station Parking Garage – Enter garage on 2nd St & King St.

Free parking is available at this lot along the riverfront and is a short walk from the start/fi nish area at Tubman-Garrett Park

  • Riverfront Wilmington Public Parking Lot- 601 S Madison Street

There may be additional free parking within walking distance of the race START. Please do not attempt to park at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, the Riverfront Market lot or on any street used for the race route as these lots and roads will be closed on race weekend. Please be mindful that area roadways will begin to close as much as 60 minutes prior to the race start times. We ask that you and your cheering section arrive early to avoid traffi c delays and give yourself adequate time to park, check your gear and get to the starting line.

RACE DAY TRAFFIC

The Delaware Marathon Running Festival endeavors to be a good neighbor. Here are some things you need to know about race day traffic.

The Start is at 7:00 am. The Finish is at 1:00 pm. All events start and Finish at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park at S. Market Street (US 13) and Rosa Parks Drive (Water Street).


SUGGESTED DETOURS ON RACE DAY

S. Market Street Bridge: Proceed out E. 4th Street (Rte 9) crossing the Christina River to S. Heald Street to A. Street. Return to Route 13S.

From PA – Rte 52 South (blockage at N. Bancroft Parkway): – Right onto Greenhill Avenue to W. 4th Street or to Lancaster Avenue. (Do not cut through West 11th Street, MacDonough Drive, or West 7th Street or you will have to cross the course)

From Downtown – Rte 52 North: (blockage at N. Bancroft Parkway) – Left onto N. DuPont Street to Lancaster Avenue, right onto Greenhill Ave to PA Ave North. Vehicle traffic will be funneled to one lane.

From Rockford Park South at Delaware Art Museum: Right onto Woodlawn Avenue to Delaware Ave. (Note: runners proceed on Bancroft Parkway all the way from Kentmere Parkway to West 9th Street)

From North Wilmington (blockage at the North Market Street bridge): Right onto W. 18th Street up to Washington St. Left on Washington Street and across the Washington Street bridge into downtown Wilmington.

Union Street at Ninth Street: the runners cross Union Street at Ninth Street and proceed to Fourth Street. They return via Lincoln Street from Fourth Street to Ninth Street. Expect delays in this area. Vehicle traffic will be funneled to one lane. Your best option is to stay on PA Ave, turn left onto Greenhill Ave, and turn left onto Lancaster Ave. Remember, the runners run on Union, Lincoln and Bancroft.

Best Option from I-95 to reach the Amtrak/Bus Station: I-95 to I-495 North to Rte 13 North to S. Walnut Street. Optional: Take Exit 6 (MLK Blvd) off I-95, left onto N. West Street right on W. 4th Street, (cross the running course at 4th & King), right onto Poplar St, right onto E 2nd Street, left on S. French Street.
