Saturday
Pre-Race and Sunday Race Morning packet pick up will be under the large
hospitality tent located at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park.
Directions. There is plenty of FREE parking just steps from the START
/ FINISH at the parking lots operated by Delaware Technical and Community
College. If you already claimed your race packet before race day, you need
not check in at registration on the morning of the event.
You may wear your sweat suits or warm-ups to the starting area. If you
supply us with your own duffel or running bag, we will label it with your
bib number and store it for you in our large rental truck adjacent to the
hospitality tent until the end of the event. Unfortunately, we cannot be
held responsible for lost or mislabeled items.
There will be 20+ portable toilets near the start/finish line. There will
be Water, Gatorade, and pre-race “carbs” outside the hospitality tent
beginning at 5:45 am. There will also be water and Gatorade in the finish
line chutes, in the relay transition area, and at the medical tent all day
long.
The marathon will start PROMPTLY at 7 a.m. The four person relay races
will follow PROMPTLY at 7:05 am and the half marathon PROMPTLY at 7:20 am.
We have purposely limited the number of participants in each event, so
each participant will have the opportunity for a clean start and an
unencumbered path throughout the race. All runners will be required to
cross timing mats that have been placed throughout the course.
All runners are to wear their numbers on the front of their shirts. For
identification and competitive reasons, the relay and half marathon
runners are to also wear a special “RELAY” or “HALF” tag on the back of
their shirts. To aid in the identification of the runners, each race will
be color coded. The marathon will have yellow bibs. The half marathoners
will have green bibs. The relay runners will have orange bibs. General
course markings will be in yellow. However, where the half marathoners or
relay runners need special instructions (i.e. at the relay turn around /
relay transition / finish), the course markings in those areas will be in
green or orange.
All runners will return to the Riverfront via S. King Street, MLK Blvd,
and S. Market Street. As you proceed towards MLK Blvd, runners will be
directed into one of three coned lanes. The left lane will be marked green
for the half marathoners; the middle lane will be marked orange for the
relay runners, and to the right and outside of the cones, the markings
will be yellow for the marathoners.
As you make the right onto MLK and the left onto S. Market, stay in your
lane. The marathon runners will bear to the right and head onto the River
walk towards the Riverfront Market. The Half marathon runners stay to the
left and enter the finish line chute and the Relay runners will be
directed to the Tubman Garrett parking lot and the Relay Team "Transition
Area", where they will exchange their timing band/chip with their team
mates. It is always recommended the next relay team runner remove the
Chrono Track timing band from the completed relay teammate and place it
around their own ankle before proceeding with their lap.
After your race is completed, you will be channeled to the areas where
there is Water and Gatorade. If you need medical attention, it will be
provided by our medical team who will have volunteers in the finish line
chutes and relay transition area. Marathon and half marathon runners will
also receive their finishing medal in the finishing chute.
Afterwards, you may present your race number to claim your hospitality
meal in our hospitality tent. We have planned for only one hospitality
meal per runner or volunteer, so please be respectful of our hospitality
volunteers. Our hospitality tent will open at 8:45am and will remain open
throughout the day.
If you need a ride back to downtown Wilmington, please
email us. We have arranged for a Christiana Care Shuttle van to
transport runners from the event site to downtown Wilmington after the
race
Showers will be available after the event at the Central YMCA, Eleventh &
Washington Streets in Wilmington (302-571-6900). Please show your runner
number for entry. The Central YMCA is only a several block walk from the
official host hotels. Bring lock and towel.
