Marathon - (26.21 Mile) Course Description
LAP 1: START
LINE is at the START Banners on Rosa
Parks Drive, behind the entrance of the parking
lot to Tubman Garrett Riverfront
Park. Cross S. Market Street to the right of the ING
DIRECT office building. Make a left onto
Water Street
to S. West Street. Make a left onto the left lane of S. West Street to S. Justison Street. Make a left onto S. Justison Street
and proceed down to Dravo Plaza. Cross Dravo Plaza in front of the Shipyard Shops and
proceed to the far end of the buildings.
Make
a left at the far end of the Shipyard Shops and proceed on the sidewalk around
the buildings. Turn left onto the
Wilmington Riverwalk. Proceed to the end of the first section of the
Riverwalk.
Make a right and immediately cross S. Market Street. Make a right into the parking lot at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park. Go through the lot and make a left onto the
second section of the Riverwalk. Continue to the end of the Riverwalk. Make a
left off the Riverwalk between the EDiS and Amtrak buildings onto N. Poplar Street.
Proceed
one block to E. Front Street. Make a right onto E. Front Street. Run past the warehouses and Christina River
Park to E. Fourth Street. Make a left onto the right lane of E. Fourth Street
and run back towards N. Walnut
Street.
Across from the Wilmington Police Department parking lot, make a right
and a left into the small apartment building parking lot and proceed one half block to N.
Walnut Street. Make a right onto N. Walnut Street and proceed in the right
lane of N. Walnut Street
to E. 16th Street.
Make
a left onto the left lane of E. 16th
Street.
Stay to the left of the small road island and cross into the left lane
of the N. Market Street
bridge. After
crossing the bridge, make a left onto N.
Park Drive.
Proceed along the park; go past the Brandywine Zoo and across N. Van Buren Street,
to the end of N. Park Drive. Before the Brandywine Park Condominiums,
make a left and carefully cross the swinging wooden foot bridge. Turn left onto the jogging path and head back
downtown. Follow the jogging path until its exit at N. Adams Street. Make a 180 degree right turn onto N. Adams Street and
proceed up the winding road across N.
Van Buren Street to Lovering Avenue.
At
Lovering
Avenue, make a right and proceed 100 yards to Kentmere Parkway. Make a right onto Kentmere Parkway
and proceed towards the Delaware
Art Museum. Before the museum, make a left onto N. Bancroft Parkway. Cross Delaware
Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue
and make a right into the Wawaset Park
neighborhood at W. Eleventh Street. Proceed on W. Eleventh Street to Blackshire Road. Make a right onto Blackshire Road
to Nottingham Road. Make a left onto Nottingham Road to McDonough Road. Make a left onto McDonough Road to Blackshire Road. Make a right onto Blackshire Road
and back to W. Eleventh Street. Make a right onto W. Eleventh Street and back to N. Bancroft Parkway.
Make
a right back onto N. Bancroft
Parkway and proceed to W. Ninth Street. Make a left onto W. Ninth Street and proceed to N. Union Street. Make a right onto N. Union Street and proceed to W. Fourth Street.
Make a left onto W. Fourth Street
one block to N. Lincoln Street. Make a left onto N. Lincoln Street and proceed back to W. Ninth Street. Make a left onto W. Ninth Street, crossing N. Union Street,
over the bridge, and back to N.
Bancroft Parkway.
Make
a right onto N. Bancroft Parkway. Cross
Pennsylvania Avenue and Delaware Avenue and return to Kentmere Parkway. Make a right onto Kentmere Parkway
to Lovering
Avenue. Make a left onto Lovering Avenue
to S. Park Drive. Make a left onto S. Park Drive, crossing N. Van Buren Street,
and proceed down to King Street. Make a right onto the left lane of N. King Street and
proceed on N. King Street
past Rodney Square.
Marathon Runners – When you
pass Rodney Square
at Mile 12.5 and head down N. King
Street towards MLK Blvd and the end of LAP 1, follow the “YELLOW” road markings. Begin moving
towards your RIGHT. As you make the right onto MLK BLVD and the left onto S. Market Street,
under the AMTRAK overpass, you should be outside and to the RIGHT of the finish line chutes.
2010 Delaware
Marathon (Lap 2 of 2) - 13.1 Mile Course
Description
LAP 2: As you turn left onto S. Market Street at Mile 13, you should be outside and to the RIGHT of the finish line
chutes. Continue to follow the “yellow” course markings.
Cross
the S. Market Street/Rosa Parks
Drive intersection and head back onto the Riverwalk towards the Riverfront Market. Proceed along the Riverwalk
to the end of the Shipyard Shops. Continue
past the end of the shops for several hundred more yards. Make a 180 degree turn-around and return on
the Riverwalk via the Lap 1 Marathon Course past the
Riverfront Market to the end of the first section of the Riverwalk.
Note: the section from Mile 13.0
until just past Mile 15.0 is an out and back on the Riverwalk. Caution: two way marathon runner
traffic.
Continue
to follow the Lap 1 Marathon Course. Make
a right off the Riverwalk and immediately cross S. Market Street. Make a right into the Tubman Garrett parking
lot and enter the marathon chutes which will take you behind the Relay
Transition Area. Go through the back of
the lot, merge with the relay runners, and make a left onto the second section
of the Riverwalk.
Then follow the Lap 1 Marathon Course off the Riverwalk
and back through the City.
Marathon Runners – LAP 2: Continue to follow the “YELLOW” road markings until you
pass Rodney Square
at Mile 25.5.
Once you pass Rodney Square on Lap 2 at Mile 25.5 and begin to head down N. King Street
towards MLK Blvd
and the FINISH banners, begin moving towards your LEFT and begin to follow the “GREEN” road markings that were used for the Half Marathon
FINISH.
When you make the final right onto MLK and
the left onto S. Market Street
under the AMTRAK overpass, you will enter the FINISH line chutes. One last left turn onto Rosa Parks Drive to the FINISH Banners.
